How to knit a mock cable panel

Can you imagine being able to add a cable design to your knitting project without using a cable needle?

You can do it whenever you please with this faux cable pattern.

All you need to know how to do is knit and purl, nothing else.

This panel creates a traditional cable pattern used for beanies and sweaters, but you can use it in any of your projects, as a stand alone design or as a repetitive motif.

Just keep in mind how many stitches you need so that it comes out perfect.

How to knit a mock cable panel

Cast on 19 stitches. Remember that you can repeat this pattern to create a repetitive motif.

Row 1: knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 3 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches.

Row 2 and all even rows: work the stitches as they appear, which means, knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches los stitches.

Row 3: knit 2 stitches, purl 5 stitches, knit 5 stitches, purl 5 stitches, knit 2 stitches.

Row 5: knit 2 stitches, purl 4 stitches, knit 3 stitches, purl one stitch, knit 3 stitches, purl 4 stitches, knit 2 stitches.

Row 7: knit 2 stitches, purl 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches, purl one stitch, knit one stitch, purl one stitch, knit 3 stitches, purl 3 stitches, knit 2 stitches.

Row 9: knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches, knit 3 stitches. *Purl one stitch, knit one stitch*, repeat from * to * two times. Purl one stitch, knit 3 stitches, purl 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches.

Row 11: knit 2 stitches, purl one stitch, knit 3 stitches. *Purl one stitch, knit one stitch*, repeat from * to * three times. Purl one stitch, knit 3 stitches, purl one stitch, knit 2 stitches.

Row 13: knit 5 stitches. *Purl one stitch, knit one stitch*, repeat from * to * four times. Purl one stitch, knit 5 stitches.

Row 15: the same as for Row 11.

Row 17: the same as for Row 9.

Row 19: the same as for Row 7.

Row 21: the same as for Row 5.

Row 23: the same as for Row 3.

Row 24: the same as for Row 2.

Repeat rows 1 to 24 until you reach the desired length.

How to knit a mock cable panel

The result of this motif is a stitch with lots of depth and texture, we can think of lots of ways to include it in our designs!
