Since when are you knitting?

I began 3 years ago.

How did you learn to knit? Who taught you?

My grandmother introduced me to knitting when I was about 8 years old. My first self-made project was a  “gruyère” scarf that had a hole in each row.

Being only 8 years old, I soon gave up. Only now I realize how lucky I was to have been taught by my grandmother and her wonderful memories. 3 years ago I started knitting again when I was pregnant with my son and had to stay in bed during the last months of the pregnancy.

I was also inspired by videos on the Internet that helped me get the hang of it.

Describe knitting to me in 3 words

Creation, evasion, relaxation.

Do you prefer knitting for yourself or for other people?

I have knitted a lot for my children, but now I have started knitting things for myself.

What is your favorite stitch?

Even though it might not be very original, it is the simple knitted stitch. It is that stitch which helps me to escape  everything whenever I am knitting. This stitch helps me to disconnect, it is the stitch I learned first, and it is also the most warm and loving stitch there is.

¿What is your favorite We Are Knitters set?

Actually, I have two!

I like the Downtown Snood so much that everyone at home has one.

And right now I am knitting the Martina Cardigan for myself and that is my first really “complicated” project.

Thick wool, thin wool, fabric yarn or baby alpaca?

Thick wool is very cozy.

At what time of the day do you prefer to knit?

At teatime, around 3 pm, during the moments that are only for me. Or if I don’t manage it around that time I knit during the night, when the house is quiet and the kids are sleeping. At the moment, I pass all my evenings knitting.

What recommendations do you have for someone who is just starting to knit?

I think it is best to start knitting with rather thick needles and with thick wool because they make it easier to knit the stitches and you finish faster.

But most importantly, don’t give up. The first rows tend to be the most difficult and can be very discouraging. But once you’ve got the hang of it the stitches come naturally.
