Hello knitters!

Today we are going to learn a new technique to knit leaves in lace stitch. We call it leaf lace stitch. We recommend this technique to experienced knitters because it’s not very easy to knit and the pattern is more difficult than others.

Even if you do not have a lot of experience, you can try!

For this technique we are also going to use the ‘sskp’ (slip slip knit pass) to decrease double stitches; when doing ‘sskp’ you’ll need to slip one stitch and leave it onto your right needle, knit the next 2 stitches together, and to end, pass the slipped stitch onto your left needle. One simple sskp means that you will need to cast off 1 stitch. 🙂

In order to start knitting, cast on 25 stitches so you’ll get two entire designs and 2 half parts. We did our pattern for this post the same way. 🙂

Row 1: knit 2 stitches, *Knit 1 stitch, 1 yarn over, knit 2 stitches, 1 sskp, knit 2 stitches, 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch*. Repeat this step on the scheme (*) until you have 3 stitches left and nit them.

Row 2 and all the even rows: purl all the stitches.

Row 3: knit 2 stitches. *Knit 2 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 2 more stitches, 1 sskp, knit 2 stitches, 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch*. Repeat this step on the scheme (*) until you have 3 stitches left and knit them.

Row 5: knit 5 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 1 stitch, 1 sskp, knit 1 more stitch and 1 yarn over. Repeat this step on the scheme (*) until you have 5 stitches left and knit them.

Row 7: knit 2 stitches. *Knit 4 stitches, 1 yarn over, 1 sskp, 1 yarn over, and knit 3 stitches*. Repeat this step on the scheme (*) until you have 3 stitches left and nit them.

Row 9: knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, knit 3 stitches, and make 1 yarn over. *Knit 1 stitch, 1 yarn over, knit 3 stitches, 1 sskp, knit 3 stitches and make 1 yarn over*. Repeat this step (*) until you have 8 stitches left and end up knitting 1 stitch, making 1 yarn over, knitting 3 more stitches, 1 simple sskp, and knit the last 2 stitches.

Row 11: knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, knit 2 more stitches, and make 1 yarn over. *Knit 3 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 2 stitches, 1 sskp, knit 2 stitches and make 1 yarn over. *Repeat this step (*) until you have 9 stitches left and finish the row; knitting 3 stitches, making 1 yarn over, knitting 2 stitches, 1 simple sskp and knitting 2 stitches.

Row 13: knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, knit 1 stitch, and make 1 yarn over. *Knit 5 stitches, 1 yarn over, knit 1 stitch, 1 sskp, knit 1 stitch and make 1 yarn over. *repeat this step (*) until you have 10 stitches left and finish knitting 5 stitches, 1 yarn over, knitting 1 stitch, 1 simple sskp and knitting 2 stitches.

Row 15: knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together and make 1 yarn over. *Knit 7 stitches, 1 yarn over, 1 sskp and one make one more yarn over. * Repeat this step (*) until you have 11 stitches left and finish the following way: knit 7 stitches, make 1 yarn over, 1 simple sskp and knit 2 stitches.

Now you need the repeat all these steps on your WAK garment.

Share your pics with us on Instagram with the hashtag #weareknitters. You’ll see how amazing the leaf lace stitch can be.

For this post we have used a double thread of 100% Pima cotton yarn ball in fuchsia and 5mm beechwood needles.
