How to knit the Popcorn Stitch

Hi Knitters!

In this post we would like to show you how you can knit this great popcorn stitch, giving your projects a new and original texture. It looks complicated, however, it is just a combination of knits and purls. Incredibly easy, right? 🙂

You want to know how to do it? Get your needles out and let´s go!

Popcorn stitch

 Cast on a multiple of 6 + 2 stitches on your wooden WAK needles.

Row 1: Slip a stitch, * knit a stitch, purl 2 stitches, knit 1 stitch, purl 2 stitches* Repeat step * to *  until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.

 Row 2: *Knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches and purl 1 stitch.* Repeat step * to *  until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Purl this last one.

Row 3: Slip a stitch, *knit 1 stitch, purl 2 stitches, twist a stitch (slip the stitch onto your right needle as if you were to knit it and then return it to your left needle) und knit 5 stitches into your previously twisted stitch, purl 2 stitches. Repeat step * to * until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.

 Row 4: Slip a stitch, * knit 9 stitches and purl a stitch.* Repeat step * to * until the last stitch in this row. Knit this last one.

Row 5: Slip a stitch, *Knit a stitch and purl 9 stitches*. Repeat step * to * until the last stitch in this row. Knit this last one.

Row 6: like Row 4

Row 7: like Row 5

Row 8: like Row 4

Row 9: Slip a stitch,* knit a stitch, purl 2 stitches, knit 5 stitches together and purl 2 stitches* Repeat step *  to * until the last stitch in this row. Knit this last one.

Row 10: Slip a stitch, *knit 2 stitches, purl 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches and purl 1 stitch. *Repeat step * to * until the last stitch in this row. Knit this last one.

Row 11: Slip a stitch, * twist a stitch (slip the stitch onto your right needle as if you were to knit it and then return it to your left needle) und knit 5 stitches into your previously twisted stitch, purl 2 stitches, knit 1 stitch and purl 2 stitches. Repeat step * to * until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.

Row 12: Slip a stitch, * knit 2 stitches, purl 1 stitch and knit 7 stitches* Repeat step * to * until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.

 Row 13: Slip a stitch, *purl 7 stitches, knit 1 stitch and purl 2 stitches* Repeat step * to * until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.

 Row 14: like Row 12

Row 15: like Row 13

Row 16 like Row 12

Row 17: Slip a stitch, *knit 5 stitches together, knit 1 stitch and purl 2 stitches. Repeat step * to * until you have 1 stitch left in this row. Knit this last one.
