How to knit the jacquard stitch

We like unique and different stitches, that are also easy to knit. Textures are one of our best allies to give a touch that differentiates our projects without adding an excessive complexity at the time of using our needles. Today we will teach you a stitch pattern with a lot of character: the jacquard stitch.

For this step-by-step we have used one of our Ecolana skeins and our size US 10 (6 mm) beechwood knitting needles.

Before beginning, as usual, we leave for you a list of the used stitches:

We will begin by casting on a number of stitches multiple of 8 + 2.

Row 1: knit 1, *slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there is 1 stitch left. Knit 1.

Row 2: purl 4, *slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 6 stitches left. Slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 2.

Row 3: knit 3, *slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 7 stitches left. Slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 3.

Row 4: purl 2, *slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 5: knit 5, *slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 5 stitches left. Slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 1.

Row 6: purl 1, slip 3 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4, *slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left. End by slipping 1 with the yarn behind the work, purl 1.

Row 7: knit 2, *slip 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Row 8: purl 5, *slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 5 stitches left. Slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 1.

Row 9: knit 5, slip 3 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4. *Continue slipping 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 2 stitches left. Slip 1 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 1.

Row 10: purl 1, slip 2 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4, *slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Continue repeating from * to * until there are 3 stitches left. Slip 2 with the yarn behind the work, knit 1.

Row 11: knit 1, slip 1 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4. *Continue slipping 4 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 4*. Repeat from * to * until there are 4 stitches left. Slip 3 with the yarn in front of the work, knit 1.

Row 12: purl 1. *Slip 4 with the yarn behind the work, purl 4*. Repeat from * to * until there is 1 stitch left. Purl 1.

To make your project longer, repeat rows 1 to 12.
